Acute bewustzijnsstoornis op de huisartsenpost

Huisarts en Wetenschap, jaargang 2007, nummer 9:455-458

Abstract

De Meij MA, Souwer IH. Acute Coma at the out-of-office general practice. Huisarts Wet 2007;50(9):455-8. Using two cases of patients suffering acute coma by way of illustration, we suggest some basics of acute care in out-of-office general practice. We propose ‘three times quickly’: (1) the GP should travel to the patient quickly, (2) should measure the essential vital signs quickly and (3) should arrange definitive treatment quickly. The first step is to ensure adequate triage by well-trained and well-supported personnel. Travel with the use of emergency signals (flashing lights, siren) should be considered, depending on the local situation. Use of the ABCDE scheme helps provide effective help. Some basic skills are essential.
