Coeliakie komt vaker voor dan u denkt!

Huisarts en Wetenschap, jaargang 2010, nummer 3:167-169

Abstract

Van der Voort-van der Kleij O, Knuistingh Neven A, Méarin Manrique ML. Coeliac disease is more common than you think! Huisarts Wet 2010;53(3):167-9. Coeliac is relatively common in the Netherlands, but is often diagnosed very late, if at all. This is because clinical signs can vary considerably and are not always specific. For example, anaemia without symptoms might be due to coeliac disease. In the long term, the disease, even if mild, can give rise to unpleasant complications. For this reason, general practitioners should bear in mind that patients with vague symptoms may have coeliac disease. Screening for IgA antibodies is the cornsterstone of the diagnosis of coeliac disease.
